We can tell its ab season when we drive up there - cars parked at every possible place along the 1, especially VanDamme. No wonder its depleted.

The Stornetta lands produced in plenty when they first became open to the public thanks to the BLM. Now there are few abs (and trash is accumulating by irresponsible visitors). The hunter-gatherers killed the golden goose there. Not to mention what damage poachers probably caused as Eric so wisely points out.

Go a couple of miles in another direction and you'll find abs, but they are there because access is restricted to the property owners. Not rocket science to figure out why.

A big reason abs haven't gone the route of SoCal is that the waters are much more treacherous up North and that gives the abs some protection.
