Beach diving in Laguna Beach can be fun, but if you are a PNW diver you will not likely be used to the "surf" that the beach diving you will see at Laguna in the summer.
I'd recommend a charter boat trip, check out www.diveboat.com and the Great Escape has a great 2 day Labor Day trip that weekend for $295. He may even let non divers go for a reduced rate, call them. www.diveboat.com
