There are two good boats out of Ventura that I use often. The Peace (http://www.peaceboat.com) and the Spectre (http://calboatdiving.com). I prefer the Peace for the way the Boat is organized and because they often do runs to more advanced sites, but you'll have a good day on the Spectre as well. Both offer bunks, good food and a hot tub (good to fill the wetsuit before and after the dive). I would rather recommend not to use the Explorer. They are ok for a half load, but become *very* uncomfortable for a full load.
