When I solo dive I usually just use a single 2nd stage (who are you going to give your octopuss to?)
When I buddy dive, instead of the long hose that needs to be wraped around everything including your neck to stowe all the extra hose, I just use 2 octo legth hose and run both of them under my right arm. One gets bungeed under the chin and my buddy needs air I give them the one I'm breathging off. It's a modified version of the long hose set up. I dive in Norcal and kelp and weeds will wrap around anything and everything and the long hose is nothing but a huge pain in the ass for shore diving.
For gauges I usually put stuff on my wrists (no bugs up here), but when I go south for bugs I have a regular console so my wrists/arms are free.
