Well if there is any good news in all this it is this, the ship is less than one (1) year old having been launched in April 2009 and is double hulled and with a spill response plan in place (according to the fact sheet provided). So at least it is not some old out of date rusting hulk with few safeguards. The cargo is segregated into several independent tanks so that will help to minimize the amount that will leak.

Now the real question...How the heck does a new ship with modern navigation run into a charted atoll? Heck you can even find it on Google maps!
