When swimming back from a dive in floating kelp, NEVER, EVER swim on your back!!! You will merely be hauling a load of kelp back to the beach or boat as its entangled on your tank valve or BC.

You'll become one of the folks we have to rescue.

Try a kelp crawl if you don't have the air (a good reason to carry a snorkel), or if you do have air take a bearing and descend under the canopy and follow it, surfacing in open batches if you must.

The arguement of snorkel entanglement in kelp doesn't hold water.
