For the wartneck piddock clam, I set the camera focus to macro and used the macro flash. Images improved after I purchased the diffuser for the strobe. Without the diffuser, the hot spot was impossible to control.

Also, Phil added some flexible joints to the strobe arm which makes it easier to position. Someday, I might add a second strobe, but in the meantime, I'll use the camera more and see if I can get away without it.
