Man dies in diving accident off Palos Verdes Estates

A 44-year-old man who was free diving off Palos Verdes Estates passed out underwater and later died, police said.

The accident occurred about noon Friday off the 2400 block of Paseo del Mar.

Kelly Collier either became stuck in kelp or passed out underwater. His friend pulled him onto their boat.

Rescuers took the man to Providence Little Company of Mary Hospital, where he died.
