An exciting two-day event celebrating the 10th anniversary of the HMCS Yukon’s reefing in San Diego will feature an underwater press conference, a party, and seminars on July
14th and 15th, announced California Ships to Reefs (CSTR). The celebration, cosponsored by California Ships to Reefs and the Maritime Museum of San Diego (MMSD).

The most dramatic event will be the underwater press conference and ceremony on July 15th. Specially trained divers will don special face masks that allow them to talk underwater while a time capsule is placed on the Yukon. Special equipment, donated by Ocean Technology Systems, will transmit voices to the surface where the press and public can be part of the adventure. Alumni of the Project Yukon sinking team will place
messages on a computer drive which will be stored in the time capsule with other mementoes to be retrieved for the Yukon’s 20th anniversary.

The July 14th activities include afternoon panel discussions and seminars educating attendees on current ocean environment conditions, how artificial reefs are part of the solution to ocean degradation, and even how to get your own ship to reef. A cocktail party will follow, with a raffle, a silent auction and a press conference. The discussions and party will be held on the M/V Berkeley, MMSD’s headquarters.

To be part of this celebration and learn about how you can purchase tickets to the special events, go to the CSTR website at www.californiashipstoreefs.org.
