What are your expectations of a DM |
Posted by Fishman on June 15, 2010 at 18:29:56: I’m curious to hear what people’s expectations are of a local So. Cal dive boat divemaster. I realize that their may be regional differences, (such as in the Caribbean some divemasters also serve as deckhands and boat captain) but in our area what are your expectations of a boat’s divemaster? Some DMs think that they are there for the “lifeguard” function for rescue purposes only. Some think they are there to provide more to the entire boat trip experience. Guidance, informal training, entertainment, supervision. If you actively dive on the local boats, do you have any examples of the good or the bad that you have seen DMs do? I am curious because last week I was on a boat and the DM was there pretty much did his “lifeguard” duties and limited it to that. I was fine with that, but some people on the boat expected more, some didn’t. Whats your take? |
