Sounds like you have a good plan.

When you contact the smaller boats - give them the date that you would like to visit the rigs. If they don't already have something scheduled perhaps they will schedule a trip for that date and see if they can find enough people to make it go for you. They can be pretty easy to work with.....most of the time!
