There were also some thick patches of unusual red clumps 2 -3 inches in diameter with a foul odor near the whales. Ross correctly identified them as whale poop. According to Dr. Google; a whale feeding on krill will have bright red poop, a whale feeding on fish will have brown poop, and squid eaters will have paler - with every color in between depending on the diet :)We didn't hop in the water to take a picture like this guy....
