Don Walsh to speak on Trieste and diving Challenger Deep Oct. 30th

Don Walsh will speak at the Adventurers’ Club annual Night of High Adventure at the Hacienda Hotel in Los Angeles on October 30.

Don Walsh served in the Navy from 1948 to 1975, mostly in submarines during his 14 years at sea. Walsh commanded a submarine from 1968¬ to 1970, retiring with the rank of Captain. From 1959 to 1962 he was the first commander of the Navy's Bathyscaphe Trieste and was designated U.S. Navy deep submersible pilot #1 in 1959. In 1960 he and co-pilot Jacques Piccard dove Trieste into the deepest place in the World Ocean, a depth of seven miles.

Walsh’s lecturing activities have taken him to 60 nations where he has given more than 1,500 lectures, TV and radio appearances. He has a BS in engineering, MS and PhD in oceanography and an MA in political science.

Brian Binnie, test pilot that flew TheSpaceShipOne into space and Zac Sunderland, who at the time, was the youngest sailor to circumnavigate the world will also speak at the Adventurers’ Club Night of High Adventure at the Hacienda Hotel (located just south of LAX) on the evening of October 30th.
