id help! (no photos though) |
Posted by Karen on November 20, 2010 at 20:12:14: I've just searched my books to no avail: the first critter is an echinoderm. It was a tiny white football shape, no longer than 1.5 inches, and had 5 rows of little knobs/spines/feet running longitudinally. There were no tentacles (that I could see) as you see in some of the sea cucumbers. I saw this animal in ~25 fsw at Anacapa. the second critter is a fish. It reminded me of a giant kelpfish, yellow variation, except that it was no longer than 3 inches. It had a very tall fore-dorsal fin and white spots along the lateral line. I saw it in the algae, just above the reef, in ~15 fsw at Anacapa. It behaved like a kelpfish, curling itself in the algae. Sorry, no pics to help. Any ideas? Thanks very much!
