Thanksgiving dives at White Point |

Merry and I made three dives at White Point hoping to get some better visibility and to explore a new reef. The inshore reef turned out to be a lot like most of the diving at White Point. Vacuolate sulfur bacteria covered the sand along the west side of the reef, with a small kelp forest on top of the reef serving as home to fish, nudibranchs and sponges. We headed out to White Point Rock for a second dive. Less than six hundred feet from the earlier dive, White Point Rock is a completely different habitat. With better visibility it could be considered one of the best dive sites along Palos Verdes. There are several smaller rocks nearby that are covered with marine life. Unfortunately, one of them is also covered by a lost fishing net. I removed a large net from White Point Rock during our first dive there. I need to explore more of the smaller rocks to see how much more is there.
