Where to dive in California?

First, let me start off by saying I am not sure this is the correct place to post this question, so if this is the wrong place I apoligize.

My family and I are plannig a dive trip over Labor Day weekend to California to dive. We plan to arrive Thursday and dive Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. There will be 5 of us, all grown adults. We are all certified divers, but have very little open water experience. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions about where in California would be a good place to dive? Also, if anyone has recommendations about dive compaines.
