That may be.
But I still remember as clear as yesterday how nasty they were here about 10 years ago and that's one very big reasons why I decided to not go fully that direction.
Some of these new DIR types that have been diving for 3 or 4 years had no idea why some veteran divers don't care for them.
I pointed them to the archives on this site.

But besides that, I see and hear of more active DIR communities in Monterey and up in PNW.
That could be because most of those areas were developed way after the shock and awe campaign of 1999-2000 in Southern California.
