Legal distance that a vessel must keep is 100 meters away, unless whale approaches you, 300 meter slow zone (no wake), and you can't put vessel in their path intentionally. The point is not to disturb them, and really I agree with the other post they have no problem avoiding you. Went out last year and they and they were surfacing right next to kayakers, sail boats, and paddle boarders but almost never near any of the power boats idling i.e. our boat. So I don't think they were disturbed. My issue is getting accidentally swallowed by a 100 ton whale. |
