An outdoor writer named Chris Dixon wrote the definitive history of the Cortes Bank from the perspective of a surfer. His book is titled 'Ghost Wave' and if you love that place, it is fascinating to read.

i spent a couple incredible nights out there a few weeks ago and i got a few sequeces of the first break:

This is directly over the wreck. Saturday night the swell picked up and it exploded every 15 minutes all night long. The percussive energy blasted straight out from the break and sounded like an explosion, followed by 10 seconds of rolling thunder, then silence... all night long-
