This event has an ebb and a flow to it and this week, we've had a little of both.

The ebb occurred when we got word that both the Pac Star and the Riviera were dropping out of the event, the former due to acquiring a trip booking and the latter due to scheduled haul-out maintenance. The flow occurred with increases in the number of people registered for each aspect of the event.

But it always feel like an uphill climb and we never know if we're going to hit our goals. The reality is that we can't do it without you. And simply put, our Chamber faces some unique financial challenges this year, only one of which involves paying for a $27,000 needed air compressor. And that's on top of the normal annual operating expenses.

You may also have seen an article in the current Alert Diver (from D.A.N.) about how chambers that are available on a 24/7/366 basis, as ours is, are becoming rarer and rarer. We'd certainly hate to be put in a position where our Chamber is forced to go part-time and guess when it is you might most likely need services so as to be staffed at those times, or - even worse - have to close down all together.

So every dollar you give, every t-shirt you buy, every poster you order, every raffle ticket you clutch means we are a just a little stronger and can put off those bleak outcomes for a while longer. But if you choose to just sit back and do nothing, then you give bleakness a chance to become reality.
