| Spawning Chaetopterus sp. (Parchment Tube Worm) |
|
Posted by Chris on July 24, 2012 at 08:08:13: Last Saturday July 21, 2012 I was diving at Anacapa island aboard the Peace. On the last dive of the day I saw what looked like a small white eruption, then another. Soon they were going off all around me until the water turned milky white. It turns out I was in the middle of an area of spawning Chaetopterus sp. (Parchment Tube Worm). As the event went on it started moving to deeper (and clearer) water, so I moved out taking photos along the way.
Then on the way back to the boat I also saw that the Astropecten armatus were starting to spawn. Unfortunately I had already been in the water for an hour and it was time to return, so I only got a few pictures.
