Another option is to beach dive, which I have done hundreds of times. You get some sand in your gear, but you can make a dive or two and be home in the afternoon to relax.
You could also buy your own boat. First, you wipe out your life savings to get a boat that won't cost you an arm and a leg to repair constantly. Next, you rent a slip that costs a week's pay every month, plus insurance and another week's pay for fuel. After awhile, you slowly build your savings back up so you can have enough for the eventual major repairs on the boat. The plus is that you can dive where you want, when you want.
