Hey Seahunt, I had one of those Hawaiian back packs and dove it for quite while. Any way , those were not actually scallops they were diving , although related, they were diving for what was then called Spondylus linguafelis. They are a bivalve with abundant fine spines and come in various colors, purple, yellow, white and orange. They still fetch a pretty penny.
