Up along the back side of the island is a huge sand dune. i have been going there since '93 and this particular patch of sand has always been full of many small harems. On tuseday there was not one group of sea lions on that entire slope. i have never seen the absense of sealions so dramatic in 20 years of intimate observation of that island. From my personal observations i have to conclude that there is a shift in locality, rather than an overpopulation. I welcome a differing opinion from anyone who runs the offshore waters.
