I think people generally remember first and last. But they associate first with a beginning and last with an end. If the first is the last and the last is the first (or the middle), I think it can create confusion.

Why not start at 12:01AM the first Saturday of October and end at 11:59PM the last SUNDAY of March. IMHO, clean & simple and - most importantly - easy to remember.
