Redondo Beach conditions |
Posted by Max Bottomtime on August 04, 2013 at 15:13:33: The sea calmed a bit today. Glassy surface with small waves invited us to the barge off Redondo Beach. Below twenty feet the water turned it's usual dirty green, but there was not a single jelly to be found. The octopus nests are small this time of year, and they are slow to develop. We circumnavigated the rust pile in search of macro critters for Merry, who still has my diopter in her grasp. I may have to break the piggy bank and get her one of her own. Ten to fifteen feet visibility, 50° on the barge, with warm water above the thermocline. I surfaced into a thick sludge of dead plankton. Brown chunks covered me, my gear and camera. It took me a little longer to rinse off today. By the time Merry surfaced the water had cleared.
