Water temps are in the seventies and most people need thermal protection - I use 3mm and carry a hooded vest just in case. Second, boat diving in Hawaii is expen$ive. The "big island" of Hawaii has some great diving and the added feature of an active volcano to visit. Our favorite island is Maui. There's a book on local beach/shore diving available at the dive stores. Break up you boat dives with some affordable beach dives - rent tanks/weights and dive your hearts out.
