the peace has a bunch of trips, like the upcoming sea divers lobster mobster 10/1-2, that go to the best place possible, given skill of the passengers and weather. It'll hopefully be cortez. They get there pretty often with freediving trips, too. The boats that are always doing frontside catalina with classes just don't have the experience and in person view of conditions out there. Hopefully some independent clubs survive and keep the boats doing something other than the catalina classics.

I think late summer/early fall is also the best time to get there, if you look at some of the long duration bouy data, this is a pretty flat time of year.

Somewhere there is an old sea divers trip that went there; I missed it but they spent 2 days out there, water was warm, I remember seeing a photo of bob davis with lobsters, diving in shorts.
