I Started diving Cortes and Tanner in the 80's. When it's nice, it's an outstanding place. When it's not, it's a real problem for most people.

Just spent a couple of days out there in absolutely flat, no wind conditions. September and very early October are probably the best times to go.

Truth Aquatics in Santa Barbara, Horizon in Sand Diego, Great Escape in LA, Peace in Ventura all go when conditions permit. I have taken Sundiver and Sundiver II there off and on over the years.

Although I have done some trips in smaller vessels, it can get downright ugly if the weather turns.
