The "putty" on the underside is sperm plastered there on females by the males. Those are already "bred". The females here certainly get bred right here but where the larvae end up??? I suspect most recruitment is local but I don't know for sure. If you want to know the answer, email Kristine Barsky in DFW. She is the senior lobster biologist for DFW. Her email used to be kbarsky@dfg.ca.gov but now that it is DFW, I don't know if it is @dfw.ca.gov.
