I grew up a few blocks from the Manhattan Beach pier and spent quite a bit of time fishing from it. I fished for sharks and rays most of the time.

I caught thresher sharks, leopard sharks, soupfin sharks, shovelnose skates, California thornbacks, Pacific dogfish (pinback sharks), batrays, and one time I caught a hammerhead shark. I used wire leaders for all of these species, because it is necessary.
