NOTICE: Catalina Chamber off-line for this weekend due to water line work |
Posted by Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber on August 01, 2014 at 18:47:49:
To: Members of the Southern California Diving Community Due to work on the marine lab’s water supply line this weekend the USC Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber will be off-line from 4:00 pm Friday August 1, 2014 until 8:00 am Monday August 4th. We learned this afternoon that the back-up plan to provide the Chamber with water at pressures sufficient to maintain fire suppression operations could not be implemented. Since the health and safety of everyone placed in the Chamber is paramount, this new information necessitated taking the Chamber off-line until water pressure is restored. The Chamber’s Fire Suppression System requires water pressure in excess of our maximum operating pressure in order to operate. While the USC Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber has never had a fire in its 40 years of operation the potential is always there. We do not want to have anyone in the Chamber when there is no ability to suppress a fire. If you are diving this weekend, especially around Catalina, please include additional safety measures to your dive plans. Thank you for your understanding. -- |
