Divers Needed - Coastal Clean Up Day 2015 Saturday September 20th |
Posted by E. Frasco on September 13, 2014 at 14:33:13: Coastal Clean Up Day is Saturday, September 20th. This is the biggest volunteer event in the world. There are sites for both beach and underwater clean ups throughout Los Angeles County, as well as inland sites as all waterways lead to the beach. Information about the event is at: Individuals can choose from many sites. Information about the sites are at the Eventbrite registration page, and registration is free: Click on "Participate as an Individual" (this is a little misleading, you can register a group on the following page) and on the next page you need to choose between either Beach Sites (for shore cleanup) or Dive Sites (for scuba divers), and enter the number of people in your group. Click on Register and on the next page you will be able to select the site. There are plenty of sites for divers, most all the major piers have underwater clean ups. I've added a new site this year in Redondo Beach between the north breakwater wall of King Harbor and the Chart House restaurant, by SEA Labs and King Harbor Yacht Club. Both an underwater clean up and a beach clean up will take place so your non-diving friends and family are welcome to come along. The dive site is for advanced divers only, it will be a beach entry, low visibility, and possible swell, conditions permitting. If you are not an advanced diver I recommend you sign up for the Redondo Pier underwater clean up hosted by Dive N'Surf.
