There is no interest in morbidity. We all morn the loss of our fellow diver. As well, we WILL respectfully discuss the incident.

I invite discussion as we did 10 years ago. Not for prurient gab but to pursue safety among our ranks.

Diver’s body recovered off Catalina Island identified as Utah man
POSTED: 10/03/14, 8:57 AM PDT | UPDATED: 1 DAY AGO 1 COMMENT
A scuba diver whose body was recovered in Emerald Bay on Santa Catalina Island was identified by coroner’s officials Friday as a Utah man.

The body, discovered Thursday, was that of Jared Royer, 40, of St. George, said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

Royer’s death marked at least the third scuba diving death in Southern California since lobster season opened Sept. 27. He was part of a group on the dive boat Sand Dollar. He surfaced Monday night, yelled for help, then went under, the captain of the boat told authorities.

Emerald Bay, one of the region’s top snorkeling and scuba diving spots, is on the west end of the island, about two miles northwest of Isthmus Cove at Two Harbors.
