Formula for Tipping on Dive Boats?

At the end of a recent two-day dive boat trip a diver approached me with a question about tipping. I've always been a good tipper, perhaps even excessive at times, but this mostly comes from a fear of being considered a cheapskate if I unintentionally tip too little.

The question about tipping started me thinking how other divers calculate their tips. I've heard fellow divers suggest "five dollars per dive", or "10% of the trip cost".

I'd like to hear how other divers on this message board calculate their tips on dive boat trips. It would also be helpful to hear from boat crews too, as far as what they consider a reasonable tip for their efforts.

I'm looking for applicable formulas here, not "tip how much you feel" type replays.

Thanks.
