Creatures Great And Small At The Underwater Arch |
Posted by Max Bottomtime on January 04, 2015 at 20:12:55: With the great conditions continuing throughout the weekend we returned to Neptune Cove for more treats. Yesterday I found two Trapania velox nudibranchs on an orange sponge. I had only found them on the outfall pipes near El Segundo before. When Kevin Lee found them they had moved a foot away. This morning they were back on the sponge. Merry and I also found four Yellowfin fringeheads, two black and two orange. We don't usually find uncommon animals here but perhaps the great visibility helped. We could see the sand fifty feet below us. On the way home we encountered eight Gray whales and three Humpbacks. They seemed to be enjoying the visibility as well as they were diving just outside the kelp. One of the Humpbacks even surfaced with kelp covering its back.
