well, the oil from the santa barbara spill is here. The beaches in hermosa, manhattan, and redondo are closed. I just did a beach dive at Vets, the Nixle.com alert went out while I was in the water.

On my way in, I saw a really remarkable amount of oil and tar at the high tide line, and just thought it was a really, really, really bad patch of the natural stuff, I was wondering if we'd had an earthquake or a godzilla or something.

Back in the parking lot, others told me what it was. Had I realized I would not have gotten in. I think my camera and gear are ok, my booties are probably shot, but that's about it.

It's worth going down to see. If this is the A -team responding quickly to a small spill in good weather, and this is what it looks like 100 miles from the source, man, I really hate to think what a bad spill is like.
