I agree. In FL I thought I'd find all kinds of shore dive sites, but it was hard to find any. I wish I'd taken a boat dive to the reefs. The SC dive I did was on the border of SC/NC out of Little River. Lots of wrecks around there, but absolutely no shore diving. I was really impressed with the wreck I dove-40 foot vis at least, and lots to see. The best part was watching the divemaster/deckhands chase a giant cobia around the boat with a big damn speargun. They never got him. But all this shows you what a gift CA diving is. We have the best of everything.
