Falkland Islands |
Posted by Clinton Bauder on April 21, 2017 at 11:08:17: And now for something completely different. Err, well certainly from a very different location though on occasion you'd be forgiving for mistaking the Macrocystis kelp forest shots for something from California. I just spent almost 2 weeks in the Falkland Islands on the Pelagic Australis. It's not a dive operation but they have a compressor and my buddy Jason Hofman and I got 9 dives in plus a whole bunch of snorkeling (mostly with Dolphins). Since we just scratched the surface so to speak I'm hesitant to draw too many firm conclusions but we saw beautiful kelp forests, weird sea stars and of lots of time with dolphins and southern sea lions. We didn't see many fish nor any walls or pinnacles that would compare with BC or Carmel. But I'm still holding out hope they are there somewhere waiting for somebody to be found. We do know it's possible to see Leopard Seals and penguins underwater here but that didn't happen for us this time. It's an amazing place above the water as well. Cold, stark and very, very windy but beautiful with loads of wildlife. |
