If you want to get to advanced sites, get away from shop boats with open water classes. Get on club charters, advanced / older clubs, and in particular, make your camera rig smaller, lose the drysuit, get a good wetsuit, and get on a boat with hunters. Hunters can swim and they get taken to the better sites. If you are on a boat with a bunch of photogs in drysuits, and the boat is using 2 anchors at every site, and gate times are many hours long (or the boat isn't moving at all)... you're diving with a group that's not going to the cool high current spots.

If you have a boat you like, ask the skipper what advanced groups dive on that boat and get to the advanced spots.
