I went diving aboard the Giant Stride last night. No, not for lobster. But, for a Blackwater dive above Redondo Canyon. Dive buddies were Mike Bartick, Aaron Hallstead and some new friends for the AOP. The bottom was 2000', but we only dove the top 80'. Vis was amazing. Hard to tell at night, but I could see the floating ball from 80' down. Temp was a 64 degrees. Slight wind pushing the boat. The float was not tethered to the boat. We drifted about 4/10 of a mile. To the divers, it seemed like there was no current. This was my third SoCal Blackwater attempt this year. Finally, there were some critters. My highlight was lots of Okiopleura, the little tadpole guy at the end of the video. It makes a new house every four hours. Which catches food particles. They are responsible for most of the marine snow. On our second dive, the bottom was 600'. We must have found were they deposit those discarded houses. That was a snotty dive, with lots of anchovies.
