Offshore Dive Site; UB88 |
Posted by Max Bottomtime on January 15, 2019 at 11:06:51: Resting in 180-190 feet six miles south of Los Angeles Harbor, the WWI German Unterseboot 88 was a long sought after wreck. I met men who had been searching for it since the 1940s. Gary Fabian finally located the sub on July 9, 2003. The wreck is home to more fish than I have found on any Southern California dive site. Large Vermilion rockfish, more than a dozen wolf eels and thick schools of Squarespot and Speckled rockfish hover over the conning tower. Large nets rise from the stern of the sub, creating an eerie and dangerous trap for fish as well as divers. 33° 36.212N 118° 14.079W
