Posted by Max Bottomtime on October 15, 2019 at 11:03:16: After being spoiled by the great visibility at Farnsworth Bank, Merry and I took John Bibb to Spongehenge at the Hermosa Beach Artificial Reef to visit the big boys, Stereolepis gigas. The ocean was as flat as we had seen in years. We had high hopes for some great diving. It was not to be. Visibility was as poor as usual, maybe even a bit less. John is probably still wondering how we get photos here. Ah, the miracle of Photoshop. The fish were not very cooperative during the first dive. A few would arrive, stay for a few seconds and then disappear into the gloom. After waiting for high tide, we jumped in for a second dive. Visibility had improved slightly but deteriorated during the dive. A few fish would come in close and stay long enough for a few quick photos. They finally began arriving by the handfull during the last five minutes of the dive. Thanks to a fisheye lens, strobes and Photoshop I was able to salvage some photos from the green slime we were diving in.
