Ditch Work and Dive Day |
Posted by Max Bottomtime on November 02, 2019 at 21:15:26: I was planning to replace a shift cable on our boat this weekend but something happened along the way. The ocean was glassy, flat, calm, smooth as silk and too inviting this morning. There were dark clouds overhead but we missed the rain by a few minutes. Our car got wet in the marina parking lot but we had perfect conditions on the water. We tried our luck at Portuguese Point. There is a nice reef in fifty feet that tops out at fourteen feet. Vertical walls frame the east and west sides of the reef with kelp surrounding the area. A school of large Opaleye flitted through the kelp at the high spot, staying just out of camera range. Although there was no water movement, suspended sand reduced visibility to twelve feet. We dived Halfway Reef for our next dived but had similar conditions there. The ocean remained flat all day, so at least the topside portion of our curse was lifted. I'll work on the boat tomorrow, maybe.
