Back in the early 90's, the kelp was so thick, you couldn't get within 3/4 of a mile of the island from Sutil to Webster point. Live-fish trappers destroyed that historical kelp forest in one summer. I watched them do it--i had no idea at the time that the kelp would NEVER come back...
