Phil and Merry Tag Along With Andy |
Posted by Max Bottomtime on June 22, 2020 at 18:51:19: Captain Andy Saxon took pity on two divers going through withdrawals this morning. Extracting us from dire straights, Andy graciously took Merry and me to a couple of rock piles in the Santa Monica Bay. Our boat parts are still back-ordered, so it was nearly a life-saving moment when we received the invitation. We headed northwest out of Marina del Rey aboard the Moby Kate on flat seas. Without a whisper of wind to pound us, we were unaccustomed to such conditions. We checked out one rock pile using the drop camera before heading to our first dive. Along the way, we encountered a harbor seal resting in a kelp paddy, jumping bait fish, a flock of pelicans, and a large sea lion that was looking for a handout. The visibility was dark but good enough to find subjects. After making two dives to rejuvenate out gills, we headed in just as the wind was coming up. Merry and I were spoiled. We're used to the wind coming up after one dive.
