The demo unit at DEMA turned out to be a. Cool helmet with a spare air set to sonstant flow and a CO2 scrubber from an emergency evac mask.
Reliable sources say that during a private demo or a test in the pool prior to the show, the system failed. The diver passed out and had to be pulled out of the water and revived.
The "working" unit would produce O2 from canisters of potassium hydroxide - which explodes if it comes in contact with water.
The Russian inventors were booking orders at DEMA. I wonder if the buyers will get their money back...
