I owned the Doubloon around 1998-2000. It was an adventure, for sure. The biggest issue was trying to find parts for her, with ancient transmissions and drive engines. Her age was always the challenge: there was no such thing as getting ahead of the maintenance. She was slow, she was temperamental, but on her best days she was a blast. I had her for only a couple of years, and in that time I saw the best and worst of the people in the dive boat industry in SoCal. At some point, I'll write a book about it.
