It seems fitting that on Earth Day 2022 (which obviously includes the oceans we love so much) we can proudly tell you that we’ve passed $90,000 in the Chamber Challenge. And a number of those contributions are “In memory of” donations.

Which leads us to one housekeeping correction first. The Gold-level donation a few days ago from Allison Vitsky Sallmon & Andy Sallmon should have been tagged in memory of Dr. Bill Bushing. We’ve corrected that on this update.

A huge part of our leap forward this time comes from our good friends at Galileo Capri in Orange County. They’re real estate people by trade but divers at heart and they’re also longtime supporters of our Chamber having again this year made another Platinum-level contribution. We are delighted to have them back in the fold.

We also have two new Gold-level contributions, both in memory of someone. The first is from Melody Tucker & the Tucker family in memory of Skip Tucker, an avid diver (and regular Chamber Eve attendee). And the second is from Robert Fenton in memory of Florence Fenton. We thank you both and are honored to help keep the memory of your loved ones going.

At the Silver level, there are two more “In memory of” donations. The first is from Patricia Wetzel in memory of her brother Tom Wetzel, not only a longtime diver, instructor, and Chamber supporter, but also a key member for many years of our Chamber Committee. The other donation comes from John Lumb in memory of Tom Binkley, Cee Ray relief captain, Reef Seekers Divemaster, and all-around nice guy. Both Toms are missed and remembered fondly.

We stand on the cusp of – for the second straight year – going past $100,000 in the Challenge alone. Looking over our donor list from last year, we can see that there are a lot of you we still haven’t heard from. So who’s going to push us further forward and maybe to new heights?
