We were $450 shy of $30,000 last night, so I reached out to two of our $500 donors from last year . . . and they BOTH came through!!! But it just shows what a special place our Chamber holds for many and how those people understand the need for their contribution to help keep us going. So we put out a big THANK YOU to both Roy Houston and to the CA Diving News/ the Scuba Show for stepping up.

Roy was a longtime and beloved (now retired) professor at LMU who introduced many, many students to the marine world over the years. Roy was also a member of our steering committee for a number of years as well. CA Diving News and the Scuba Show are both well known (and hopefully also beloved) by many SoCal divers as, respectively, a monthly look into the world of SoCal diving and an annual collection of the scuba industry under one roof, this year being moved downtown to the L.A. Convention Center June 1-2. We thank both of them for their $500 Silver-level donations.

They are joined at that same $500 level by Patti Wetzel. If the name “Wetzel” sounds familiar, that’s because her brother Tom Wetzel was a longtime (and also beloved) instructor in SoCal as well as a key member of our steering committee for many years. Patti’s donation is made in memory of Tom, who passed away a few years ago and who we think of often.

Chamber Day/Eve 2024 is exactly seven weeks from today. So there’s still plenty of time to get you involved. But there’s no time like the present to step up and support our Chamber during our 50th anniversary celebration. So who’s next??? Who will drive us even higher?
